Rachel Howard
Rachel Howard is author of the memoir THE
LOST NIGHT (Dutton, 2005).
At
26, Rachel Howard was the youngest dance critic writing for a major metropolitan
newspaper. Formerly a staff writer on dance and books for the San Francisco
Examiner, she has also covered arts and culture for the Orange County
Register and the Santa Barbara Independent, and contributed to the Village
Voice, Dance Magazine, and The Dancing Times (UK). She
currently contributes reviews to the San Francisco Chronicle. After
earning dismal grades during high school and giving up on the idea of college,
Rachel entered a statewide writing contest sponsored by the University of
California at Santa Barbara on a lark and won first place. UCSB waived its GPA
requirements and granted Rachel a fellowship. Rachel spent her senior year
abroad at the University of London’s Kings College, and graduated summa cum
laude.
