Ellen Cooney


        Ellen Cooney is the author of six novels: A PRIVATE HOTEL FOR GENTLE LADIES (Pantheon), GUN BALL HILL (University Press of New England), THE WHITE PALAZZO (Coffee House), THE OLD BALLERINA (Coffee House), ALL THE WAY HOME (Putnam), and SMALL TOWN GIRL (Houghton Mifflin). Her stories have been published repeatedly in The New Yorker, and in many literary journals including Glimmer Train, The Literary Review, Ontario Review, and Epoch.
        The critically acclaimed A PRIVATE HOTEL FOR GENTLE LADIES, a Book Sense pick for 2005, and a Borders Original Voices title, will be published in paperback by Anchor in January 2007.
Her new novel, LAMBRUSCO, about Italian partisans in WWII, will be published by Pantheon in 2008.
        She has taught creative writing at MIT, Harvard, and Boston College. A native of Massachusetts, she now lives in midcoast Maine.
