John Smolens
John Smolens is author of many
critically-acclaimed novels, including COLD
(Shaye Areheart/Harmony Books, 2001), THE
INVISIBLE WORLD (Shaye Areheart/Harmony Books, 2002), FIRE
POINT (Shaye Areheart/Harmony Books, 2004) and the forthcoming THE
ANARCHIST (Shaye Areheart Books, 2009). He is also author of two other novels,
WINTER BY DEGREES
(Dutton, 1988 and Avon Books, 1990) and
ANGEL’S HEAD (Norton, 1994), and a story collection,
MY ONE AND ONLY BOMB SHELTER (Carnegie Mellon, 2000). All of his books
have been critically acclaimed, and he has received endorsements from
Andre Dubus, Jim Harrison, Stuart Dybek, John Yount and others. He received his MFA from Iowa
in 1984 and is currently head of the MFA program at Northern Michigan
